We’ve both always been interested in travel and adventure and had traveled independently before we met. We actually met in May 2012 on a plane going from Nepal to Thailand. We’d both been travelling round Nepal and trekking.
After 3 days in Bangkok we ended up heading off to travel Myanmar together for a month
There we saw temples
Tried to dress like the locals
Met, and in Aidens case, scared the local kids
Spent one of the bizzarest nights of my life in a monastery
Saw the Mustache brothers a comedy trio who have been in prison for criticising the governement, as part of their conditions of release they are only allowed to perform in the basement of their house to foreigners
Much to the local monks surprise we never let anything get in our way
We always made friends
We missed our plane to Bangkok, but it meant we got to see all the people line the streets to celebrate Aung San Suu Kyi return to Myanmar after her tour of Europe
We ended up back in Thailand, both of us not ready to go our own ways so I’d spoken so much about my previous times diving in Indonesia and impulsively we decided to go dive in Indonesia.
Aiden learnt to dive in Tulamben, and so we went on to to dive in the Togean Islands, Bunaken and Lembeh
After Bali we flew to Sulawesi where we…
Went to the Togean Islands
Attended a wedding where people seemed more interested in us than the couple getting married
We spent the last of our time in Indonesia in Lombok where sadly we were robbed so I have very few pictures of our two months in Indonesia, we still have fab memories of the getting really lost in Tana Toraja, the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in, monkeys, huge tarantualas, travelling in thetiny cramped Bemos, the beaches in Lombok, driving our motorbike on dirt tracks, rocks, me getting asked for photos everywhere we went and Aiden getting offended they didn’t want pictures of him.
Towards the end of our travels we came to a big decision that we wanted to stay together so after a quick trip to England and Spain to tell my family and friends I moved to Australia.
We entered a few events
We bought a boat
We went to Sydney
Darwin to visit Aiden’s family (twice)
Went skydiving for my birthday (thanks ladies)
Spent a lot of time exploring WA
Exmouth and Coral Bay
We got into camping and on each trip we ended up buying more gear, although we were always had the least gear around at the campsites we stayed at
Realised we are useless at fishing
Were lucky enough to have lots of lovely family and friends visit us
A few visits back to England and Ireland for weddings and to see family and friends
As well as exploring Australia we holidayed in Hong Kong and Macau
and East Timor, where we had continued a tradition of taking rented vehicles down un-navigable tracks
After 2.5 years living in Perth and exploring Western Australia we decided that we weren’t ready for our big travels to be over so we made plans to go to South America for a year stopping for a month in Europe to see family and friends on the way. We share a love of diving and the ocean. I always feel happiest under, by or on the water. We also share a love of the mountains and trekking. We plan to explore the South America from the oceans to the mountains and everything between, hence the name Oceans Deep, Mountains High.
I think I can safely say we’ll both miss Perth and all the friends we have there, but we’re excited for our upcoming travels.
